About The Sewing Pattern
The Cara Cardigan is a stylish pattern that features dropped sleeves, a buttoned front, pockets and comes in two lengths. The looser fit makes the perfect cosy cardigan and can be sewn with sleeve cuffs or a standard sleeve hem. This beginner friendly pattern comes in sizes 6-32 and is perfect for all sewing skill levels.
What Fabric Do You Need?
To make The Cara Cardigan, you’ll want to use light-medium weight knit fabrics such as jersey, ribbed knit, sweater knit, ponte roma etc… I personally like to use fabric that has a nice amount of drape, so the fabric glides over my body and makes the perfect layering piece. Depending on the size you sew and the width of your fabric you will need between 1.5 – 3 meters or 1.7 – 3.2 yards of fabric.
You’ll also need 1/4 metre of knit interfacing to help stabilise the neckband. If you’ve never used knit interfacing before, it’s a thin textile you can iron onto your fabric. Knit interfacing works great at slightly stiffening and reinforcing the fabric – which is why you use this on areas where buttonholes will be sewn.
